The Role Responsibilities

The GPM for Planning Operations role is responsible for the end to end delivery of a best practice Planning and Forecasting process, supporting the Group Head of FP&A to drive the Plan and Strategy agenda at the Group’s Management Team and Board. 

This role is also a key member of the Global Process Owner Plan to Perform and FP&A management teams, created to enable Finance to run standardised, efficient, well controlled processes in a consistent way across the Standard Chartered organisation. GPOs are accountable (both onshore and offshore) for the process effectiveness, efficiency and risk for the P2P process.

Three key areas of Focus of this role:

Deliver an optimized end to end Planning process.

  • Responsible for delivering end to end process for Standard Chartered Group's Corporate Plan (5 years Strategic Corporate Plan, Target Setting, yearly Forecast, Restatements) working closely with the Group FP&A, P2P and wider Finance teams
  • Understand and manage the pain areas and provide recommendations for a more efficient and effective end to end process including technology related aspects.

An agile ‘visionary’ of change continually seeking to optimize process

  • Role-model culture of continuous process/efficiency improvement within all teams. Embed a process to continually review, identify and improve all assigned processes in order to identify opportunities for quality & process design improvement.
  • Frontline owner of product including change and work closely with IM, Change, Technology to deliver change
  • Contribute to transformation agenda in terms of strategic, consensus building, driving and contributing to objectives. Participate and Support in all Global initiatives as applicable from time to time.

Drive insightful, inventive and accurate MI and Analysis.

  • Provide critical insight into the outcomes of the Plan
  • Support the development & delivery of Effective Group Planning reporting. Provide insights to advise and guide best usage
  • Define and drive the supporting MI to the Planning and Forecast to meet stakeholder requirements.

Effective Stakeholder engagement (at senior level),

  • Proactive Business Partner to Head of FP&A
  • Engage senior stakeholders/business. Role interfaces extensively with senior Finance management at Group level, with Country, Segment, Function, and Regional CFOs, and the heads of the GFS centres and work closely with the Finance Management Team to build a sustainable and forward-looking finance organisation
  • Member of FP&A and P2P Management teams to drive direction and guide wider Organisation
  • Excellent communication across all levels – authoritatively and competently deal with many stakeholders (from briefing practitioner briefings to driving process and change with CFOs)

Talent nurturing and People and team development

  • Ensure that right talent is attracted and retained for all key roles and D&I is a key consideration; Manage attrition including building bench strength.
  • Continuous development of talent within the team including succession planning
  • Evaluate options for continuously promoting forums for employee engagements. Encourage employees on their creativity, learning and development & improve work life balance.
  • Embed SCB valued behaviors to create a culture for achieving organizational objectives.

Maintain robust governance environment

  • Day-to-Day rigour of implementing and driving the Key process Optimisation techniques laid down in Accelerate (Huddles, Process standardisation etc)
  • Ensure Operational risk monitoring across all processes covered by the team and report key risks emanating from them to right forums.
  • Ensure complete compliance with Group Code of Conduct and Social agenda of the organization. Role model SCB “values” to create a culture for achieving objectives

And follows GFS best practise:

  • Deliver SLAs as agreed with stakeholders and on annual productivity and cost saves targets
  • Contribute to the strategic development of the Centre & drive GFS collective agenda - contribute to transformation agenda in terms of strategic, consensus building, and driving objectives. Participate and Support in all Global initiatives.
  • Participate and support GFS, GBS and SCB Group wide agenda
  • Constantly explore opportunities for migration in the hub. Build compelling cases for end to end migration from countries. Work closely with business and country CFOs to augment on this and manage/escalate risks arising out of transition of new processes

Key Competencies & Experience

 

  • A seasoned Finance Professional with a leading Global Financial Institution.
  • Strong reporting and Strategic mindset, coupled with a thorough understanding of Performance management and process Management.
  • Change agent adept at Optimisation end to end
  • Ability to understand and connect business drivers and rationale for and application of those relevant to process.
  • Significant experience of working with senior management team and of interfacing with and influencing senior stakeholders.
  • Experience of having participated in any relevant strategic or finance related projects like Business Efficiency, cost optimization/reduction projects.
  • Substantial experience of banking, depth and breadth of knowledge in processes especially in the areas of Management Reporting.
  • Experience of having led large teams including senior & experienced professionals.
  • A team player with the management ability and track record to secure the confidence and respect of the peers, stakeholders and the executive management team.
  • Ability to culturally orient in diverse & international team environment, motivate and inspire multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure, multi task, manage in ambiguities, influence where he/she does not have direct authority & build on unstructured formative situations

Qualifications/Skills

  • Chartered Accountant or MBA with 18+ years of relevant finance experience in FP&A, Performance management & Reporting and market share and/or peer benchmarking
  • Strong understanding of financial industry, specifically banking products and services
  • In-depth knowledge of the drivers of businesses performance and relevant key performance measures of Banking business
  • Effective communication skills, including presenting and influencing senior management.
  • Make sound choices/influence based on business priorities
  • Comfortable dealing with incomplete information, uncertainty, change and dealing with ambiguities
  • Excellent Excel & PowerPoint skills
  • Knowledge in Hyperion system for Planning
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Solid people and project management skills.
  • Management skills and ability to influence others in decision making
  • Relationship and stakeholder management skills is important
  • Initiative and proactive thinking
