What is the Financial Analyst in Global Research Library group responsible for?

  • The Financial Analyst (FA) under direction of a Supervisor/Manager, oversee wide range of financial and macroeconomic data & research services and resources in support of multiple investment management groups worldwide and their global equity and fixed income products. Apart from information research, charts, presentations, and other data visualization services are closely integrated with the investment research and client relations processes, and include investment performance, valuation and trends for different investment products, industries, and markets, among others. 
  • Provide input, leadership, direction in developing strategy, service solutions or enhancements, and related policies and procedures to support operation. Maintain good working relationships with customers, team members, internal customers, external service vendors and business partners. Coordinate and/or support projects as needed. Document work flow procedures and business processes.
  • The FA works closely with portfolio managers and research analysts of different portfolio groups to understand their specific needs, and delivers information research, original charts, graphs, data, and presentations that are customized and personalized for each portfolio group and each client. The FA supports creation of the Investment Strategy chartbooks including global equity, commodities and currencies, fixed income and macro, country, industry-specific chartbooks, and macroeconomic & sector specific information research. The FA liaises and works with multiple vendors and with the back office teams to obtain the most relevant and accurate data/information; and validates data/information against multiple data sources.

What are the ongoing responsibilities of a Financial Analyst in Global Research Library group?

  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative research, obtain and analyze research/data, and use data to create charts, graphs and presentations:
  • Communicate effectively with portfolio managers and research analysts.   Answer their inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Serve as subject matter expert in area of practice
  • Anticipate, evaluate, validate, and manage research, chart, data and presentation requests from portfolio groups.
  • Evaluate and validate data against multiple data sources
  • Reviews and analyze financial status of companies, including cash flow, debt, equity, operating income, etc.
  • Create, format, presentations/slides, and report edits/revisions, verifying accuracy and ensuring high quality output.
  • Accumulate data and summarize information into pertinent, understandable and presentable form.
  • Participate in and contribute to industry, sector, company, or geographic research.
  • Support special projects.
  • Develop, update, maintain and deliver regular library services such as country or sector information packages, stock screens, chartbooks, etc.
  • Understand and apply compliance/copyright to all research and DV services.
  • Improve data quality: uncover data defects, detect outliers, resolve missing/erroneous values
  • Provide advice, recommendations, and training on emerging data, chart, and presentation information trends to the team.
  • Coordinate and/or support requests/projects as needed
  • Document work-flow procedures and business processes, develop new processes
  • Develops strategies to retrieve relevant information efficiently and accurately from multiple sources
  • On an ongoing basis, assess client needs and evaluate research and DV services for continued relevancy
  • Review and analyze the effectiveness and efficiency of existing research and data information tools (for example, FactSet, Bloomberg, Thomson Research) and develop strategies for improving or further leveraging these tools
  • Manage a repository of corporate slide sets and presentations
  • Evaluate and implement new process improvements and service initiatives
  • Other duties as assigned



What ideal qualifications, skills & experience would help someone to be successful?

  • Graduate/Postgraduate in business-related field, or equivalent experience 
  • Candidates with PG/MBA/Master’s in finance/Economics are preferred 
  • 3-5 years’ experience in financial services, investment management industry
  • Minimum two years relevant experience on Information Services, Investment or business research, or data analysis
  • Expertise with quantitative and qualitative information/data related to macroeconomic indicators, company financials and stock information.
  • Proficiency in PowerPoint, Excel; working knowledge of Microsoft Office Outlook and Word.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles 
  • Knowledge of financial markets, standard asset classes and various security types
  • Knowledge of online searching techniques necessary to retrieve, collate and synthesize financial and statistical data, broker research, company filings, and other types of information. 

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Familiarity with business/financial research systems such as FactSet, LexisNexis, Factiva and Bloomberg.
  • Ability to work in high pressure and fast pace environment
  • Ability to analyze, collate and understand requirements and deliver the required information through effective charts and graphs using data visualization skills
  • Understanding about macroeconomic and sector concepts/terminologies.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize work and deliver expected results within established timelines
  • Ability to analyze and resolve problems 
  • Ability to work both independently and as a part of a team

Licenses and certifications:

  • Any certification on information services, research services preferred, but not essential
  • Any certification from financial markets such as NSE, BSE, IMFI, preferred, but not essential 


  • Utilizes the full spectrum of financial calculations 
  • Comfortable working with numerical data  
  • Understand Valuation concepts.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data integrity
  • Strong process analysis skills and ability to suggest improvements for efficiency and effectiveness of solutions. Ability to recommend and implement best practices
  • Create charts and presentations by accumulating data and summarizing information into pertinent, understandable and presentable form 
  • Demonstrate ability to research, investigate, analyze, reconcile, and evaluate data and information.
  • Review and analyze financial status of companies, including cash flow, debt, equity, operating income, etc. 
  • Ability to read and comprehend materials prepared by Quantitative analysts (quants)
  • Develops strategies to retrieve relevant information efficiently and accurately from multiple sources.
  • Identifies trends and developments in competitive environments and presents findings
  • Strong analytical skills, ability to resolve simple and complex issues quickly and accurately
  • Evaluate and validate data against multiple data sources
  • Demonstrate proactive and solutions-oriented approach towards business problems and process improvements
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Interest in learning new tools, processes and systems

Additional Desirable Qualifications:

  • Hands-on experience or certification on financial databases or power-user of FactSet and Bloomberg for presentation and research support is highly desirable
